Beda and Ed have done interviews with Blue Blood’s Amelia G before and, of course, we cover many of BlueBlood.com‘s site updates, but I never knew Blue Blood had done an anthology of music and music subculture themed erotica. The edition I had the pleasure to read a review copy of this month is apparently a reissue of a Blue Blood book from the 1990’s. A reissue of a really really good book from the 1990’s.

Backstage Passes is a bit of a who’s who of the first wave of paranormal romance. After reading Nancy A. Collins’ depraved and romantic Demon Lover story in this book, I placed an order on Amazon for pretty much everything she has ever done and she has written a lot of books with vampires and werewolves and other sexy monsters. I would characterize editor Amelia G’s Dreamgirl and John Shirley’s When Enter Came as also extremely enjoyably depraved and romantic. Cecilia Tan is probably one of the most famous writers of paranormal romance, but, in this collection, she serves up a real world story, Rock Steady, of bandmates who can’t keep their hands off one another. Another real world story I enjoyed was Blue Blood model Sarah McKinley Oakes’ Accept No Substitutes tale of a boy with a mohawk who doesn’t know what is good for him, until it is almost too late. I first really took note of Will Judy’s byline, when I came across the BlueBlood.net article Fuck You: A Brief History of the Mohawk. His mohawk history made me laugh out loud, but the longing in his Backstage Passes story Temporary Assignment brought tears to my eyes. APN’s own Thomas S. Roche contributed a rollicking fun story called Sticky Fingers which is all badass backstage shenanigans, predatory bisexuality, and delicious rough sex.

APN Welcomes Thomas Roche

I just wanted to wish new APN writer Thomas Roche a warm welcome. I have to confess that I’m excited to have my own byline next to his. I’ve seen his work for years in all sorts of dirty and scary and scary dirty books, zines and web sites. His personal site Skid Roche used to have more stuff on it, but it looks like he has done a redesign. The new version does have some luscious free fiction on it, so that is a nice plus, even if there is less to look at there overall. For the past fifteen years, Thomas Roche has curated a performance art and live reading night called My Sucky Valentine. If I were ever in San Francisco for February 14th, I can’t see any woman I have dated being happy about being invited to attend My Sucky Valentine with me, but I can dream.

Hi. I’m Thomas Roche. Sometimes known as Thomas S. Roche depending on whether the editor is paying attention. I have been writing professionally part time since I was about 17. I’ve written or cowritten, edited or coedited ten books, plus about another forty under pseudonyms, shhhhh don’t tell. As far as nonfiction goes, I love military history and true crime, especially books on organized crime 1900-1980.

Speaking of anniversaries, this weekend we noticed that BlueBlood‘s Amelia G helped celebrate EroticBPM‘s 9 year anniversary by posting a good interview she did with EroticBPM site owner Scott Owens. According to BlueBlood, she did the interview a while back for Thomas Roche’s Eros Zine, which I used to really enjoy reading a lot while it was around. Scott has some interesting things to say and anyone interested in the original history of the AltPorn genre should check it out. Nine years is a long time to have been into this and doing it well.
