Gothic Beauty 25 Year Reunion of Original Artists, Lots of Great Swag

Gothic Beauty Magazine is doing such a short Kickstarter that I almost missed that this was happening. They are kickstarting a calendar which features some of their favorite images from their 25 years of publishing, with a focus on their early years. (Personally, I’m going to pledge for the calendar, plus I need lots of Gothic Beauty Boxes and T-shirt reward.)

Although Gothic Beauty is a SFW magazine, one which, in my opinion, verges on the prudish, a lot of the best altporn photographers have been published in the magazine. I think this is because, no matter how soft or explicit, alt work has a lot of style and attitude, so a lot of models we would love naked and sexy in the alt world obviously look fantastic and stylish with their clothes on as well. The look and subcultures are the throughlines.

For this Project, the Gothic Beauty team has pulled together a who’s who of early two thousands alternative photography and altmodel work, with many contributors you will recognize. Alt aficionados will be particularly pleased to see contributions from AltStar Hall of Famer Amelia G (BlueBlood, GothicSluts, BarelyEvil, EroticFandom), AltStar Hall of Famer Forrest Black (BlueBlood, GothicSluts, BarelyEvil, EroticFandom), Apnea (GodsGirls, SuicideGirls, SuperCult), Angela Ryan (BurningAngel, CrazyBabe, ShinySluts, HollyRandall, MisterDevious, RetroKitten, BlueBlood), Ulorin Vex (HollyRandall, LatexHeaven), Lithium Picnic (SuicideGirls), Darenzia (Juliland, GodsGirls, BlueBlood, GothicSluts, BarelyEvil, EroticFandom), Batty (BlueBlood, GothicSluts, BarelyEvil), and more. One of my favorite things about this Project is they are posting regular in-depth interviews on the Kickstarter where contributors share behind-the-scenes moments and their thoughts on goth. These are some really excellent and interesting interviews.

Backers receive an email with each interview as it posts to the Kickstarter. Rewards include the goth calendar, Gothic Beauty Boxes, T-shirts, and more and more swag. You can even pledge to have your own birthday or other special day enshrined in the calendar.

Hankey’s Toys Sponsors Successful Liquid Red Kink Ball Detroit

It looks like the Liquid Red Kink Ball Detroit was the place to be last weekend, if you love Hankey’s Toys and we sure love Hankey’s Toys here. Nightlife impresario Noir Halo says attendees of her huge Liquid Red Kink Ball Detroit event loved the Hankey’s Toys they saw. Winners of the Mr/Ms Bondage Detroit sexy costume contest took home some very impressive toys from the premium toy maker, who provided prizes. Looking through photos from the successful night, Halo exclaimed, “A big thank you to Hankey’s Toys for sponsoring the sexy outfit contest at Liquid Red Detroit! So many happy winners and their new toys from last night.” The winners certainly do look happy in the photos provided. Hankey’s Toys are known for being very fetish-friendly and handmade from only the finest materials.

This past weekend, a thousand fetish fans reveled at the historic Token Lounge in Michigan. Performances included mummification, bondage, latex, leather, and fire. Now, in its 7th year, Liquid Red Kink Ball Detroit is an exciting party intended to heighten your senses, turn you on, and make your dark fantasies come true. Fashion shows and hot stage shows that will stretch the imagination, dungeon furniture and play space, naughty ladies and boy toys, ponies, latex clad masked guests, pets and much much more. Goliath: Burning Angel

You know I have to like the Burning Angel book from Goliath because it opens with pictures of my personal fave Azrael. It technically opens with an introduction by Joanna Angel, which is translated into a bunch of different languages, but the English version is kind of a paint-by-numbers of what all altporn sites seem to feel like they have to say and didn’t really provide as much insight into the images as I would have liked. Joanna Angel looks cute on the cover though and smashingly glamorous in a series inside with jewels all along her cheekbone. In other notable makeup, Stellar has this white or silver eyelashes which make her look even more strikingly beautiful than she already does. There are some really nice photographs of Angela Ryan against just a simple purple wall, but with a glowing overhead light. Jade Jolie looks plush and sexy in amongst her plush stuffed animal toys. I think my favorite picture in the book’s generous 365 pages is one of Rubella, with her striped hair, holding a striped coffee cup bigger than her head. Bella Vendetta makes a standout appearance both in front of painted walls and outside on the sidewalk. Mayhem appears naked on the street next to a vigilante van which has good intentions and bad spelling (the van has bad spelling, not Mayhem, just to be clear). In general, Brenda Staudenmaier aka The Lovely Brenda does really interesting things with backgrounds, with a lot of the shoots being outdoors in New York City, against spray paint, streets, and sidewalks. I wish the book had larger pages, rather than being only 5.5″ x 7.5″ in size, so I could see more detail in the more complex outside work. I’d say it could have had fewer pages and had the pages be full size, but I really enjoyed being able to see a few print resolution images of each girl and not just one. Oddly, the photographer is credited on the cover as only “lovely Brenda” and some places list Joanna Angel as the author, although the book just has her as the intro author and lovely cover model. So, anyway, I am not sure who edited the book, but it is a nice selection sort from the work on BurningAngel, so kudos to whoever did it.

I guess you could say that I officially started my modeling career four years ago, but I can’t remember a time growing up when my mom didn’t have a camera in my face. I guess I shouldn’t be surprised that I am modeling for others now. It just seems like something I have always been doing. I love glamour and getting all dolled up. I have branched out in the last two years and have started performing burlesque, fetish skits, and singing.

I am really into the fashion aspect of fetish. That is what first attracted me to the scene. I love the feeling of latex against my skin, the restriction of a tight corset, and standing sky high in my highest heels. I also love wearing lingerie under my clothing. There is a certain sense of naughtiness knowing that you have a surprise waiting for someone under your dress! I am also known to have a tiny hat perched on my head at all times!

I do hate to put myself into just one category, but the over all feel I try to achieve in all of my shoots is an air of glamour no matter what the look is. I love doing a variety of work and challenging myself to new ideas. I like to mix genre’s as well. There are so many different facets of my personality, so I never like to look just one way all the time.

I have been fortunate to have worked with some really amazing photographers including Christine Kessler, Sean McCall, Shannon Brooke, Lithium Picnic, Perry Gallagher, Jill Rasco, Viva Van Story and James Graham to name a few. It would be a dream to someday work with Christophe Mourthe and David LaChapelle.
