What does your typical work day look like?

I sleep about 4 hours a day, every 3 days or so I have to crash a nap to catch up on well deserved sleep. In case some of our readers are unfamiliar with the term “gender-queer,” How did your sexuality, and thus identity, evolve throughout the years and what does gender mean to you personally?

Many people may not realize that gender and sexual identities can exist independent of each another. Lacking inclusive sexual education, most of us grow up with a limited (and many times false) understanding of gender and sexual desire. We may only know about heterosexual orientations (and thus come to understand them as ‘normal’) only to later discover homosexual orientations. All the while, thinking that male and female gender is binary, and static. Our society is at this moment conflicted within its discovery what it means to be trans. Simply because an experience is less common (or less often talked about) does not mean it is wrong or impossible. The reality is that human sexuality and biology is complex and incredibly diverse. Our differences are a beautiful thing; they reflect the naturalness of diverse desires, attractions, and potential for love.

The word I often use now to describe my gender is be non-binary, though the fluidity of such labels further proves our inability to define something as personal and individual as identity. Pronouns and categories are helpful right now because they continue to shape and describe our experiences as we expand our capacity to understand and relate
to one another.

You’ve pretty much covered the majority of porn genres. For someone as sexually-liberated as yourself, is there anywhere you draw the line and say “I’m not doing that”?

There’s a LOT I won’t do. I joke that I’m a very ‘picky’ performer — not to shame or put other performers down, of course, I often wish I had a larger sexual appetite and had less personal hang-ups that prevent me from working in more films. I try to be realistic about my comfort levels so that I can stay involved longer and not burn out.

It’s easy to confuse sexual liberation or sex-positivity as flagging an orange “everything goes” hanky. Establishing boundaries and being able to clearly define what you will and won’t do — for how much or under what circumstances — is the most important thing we can do to take care of ourselves as sexual beings.

Since 2005, I’ve strived to perform as closely to how I have sex off camera — a feat easier said than done. I try not to change the way I look, everything from hair removal to make-up, sexual acts, and scene partners. I want the sex I have on camera to be as true to me as possible, because it makes the scene the most enjoyable for me. I think people who enjoy my work like it for that reason; they can see that I feel confident and am comfortable in my body.

What are your feelings on alternative erotica, and how it’s developed through time?

Erotic films are still a relatively new form of sexual entertainment. As cameras and other production equipment have improved over the decades, so have the means for new communities to access these forms of technology. We’re seeing high quality recording capabilities on increasingly common gadgets such as smartphones. The market allows more and more hosting options and easier ways to share and consume video. All of these combined means it’s easier than ever to make and find erotica that reflects the creators’ unique interests – there’s as many ways to show what’s sexy as there are actual people. It’s important to have more reflections of what’s possible, and expand that cinematic landscape so we can see ourselves there too, along with what’s expected.

Well I’d dabbled in some fetish work for private collections. And worked in a couple dungeons before. And I finally wanted to make the switch, and I had a friend of mine that knew some people over at Burning Angel and it was all happily ever after from there ?

What does a typical work day look like for you?

After being a fan of the lovely RazorCandi for years, and being able to write about her for a year or so, I got the exciting opportunity to interview her for our magazine. So here’s the interview, which also contains details about how you can get your hands on the new coffee table book!

I’m sure there are some people out there who’d like to know more about the creative process behind a RazorCandi photo shoot or video; can you tell us more about it?

Generally most of my ideas come from a single item. I might receive a new wig or a pair of new shoes and from there I will brain storm my options, putting together ideas in my mind until I come up with some conclusive plans. Then I’ll make a quick sketch on paper, this helps me remember all the little details especially when I am packing the outfits.

You also do oil paintings, how did you get started on this art form?

I took art school as an elective in high school. I kind of had a knack for it before I decided to take the class but I really discovered my passion and love for it during that time. Alas, I followed modeling rather than painting which left me little time for practice so I never completely pursued it with full potential.

Alternative modeling has changed a lot over the last years, what is your opinion on the evolution of this whole subculture?

When I first became interested in the alternative subculture, for me, it was about the freedom of self-expression and a giant middle finger to mainstream. Now it seems mainstream has hijacked elements of the alternative fashion and have directed it more in the path of beauty and perfection. A while back when I shaved my sides and painted my face up with layers of black make up I was seen as a total freak. People spat on me in the street but now I see pop stars, models and icons shaving their sides and wearing black lipstick and it’s considered cool and hot. In a way it’s a good thing for me because it means I can just be myself and use it as a marketing tool but I also feel like I’m not really making all that much of a statement anymore. Then again, times change and people change with them. I’m sure the 80’s goths where saying the same things about us 90’s goths and so on.

What advice would you give to the models who aspire to follow in your footsteps?

This is a hard one because the modeling scene has changed so much I’m not even sure if my advice is even valid anymore. I say this a lot so I hope I don’t sound like a broken record but my advice is to be yourself, if you want to stand out you need to let your true colors show. Though with show biz and entertainment a lot of stuff is based on how well you can lie and how fake you can be but I feel true success comes from what you leave with after the show is over and the only way you’ll achieve that is by being a genuinely good person and respecting others.

You are working on a coffee table book that is going to be published by BlueBlood, can you give the fans some details about it?

The book has been a long time dream of mine. Eight years ago I sold a very small 3 volume book collection while day dreaming about the coffee table book that one day will happen and now it finally has! It’s a hard cover, 172 pages of full color with photos that span over the past ten years of my modeling career. It will focus on fashion and soft erotica.

The expression of one’s self. It’s far more appealing to me than normal porn. I’ve always been alternative so it truly has an enticing and sexy effect on me. I have nothing against porn that isn’t alt it just fits who I am far more than anything else.

You have appeared in a lot of photo sets for BarelyEvil where you get to do many different things. I’d like to know: of all the photo sets you’ve appeared on, which one is your favorite?

I’ve done many for Barely Evil so kinda hard to list them all. My favorite one is the where I’m wearing a shirt that says “I Fuck For Satan” and I end up diddling my self with my Crucifix dildo. But it’s still hard to choose a favorite one since I love and enjoy all of them.

There is a particular BarelyEvil set where you are playing with a porcelain cross, which makes me wonder: What is the most exotic item you’ve used on a photo shoot?

I’ve put squids and live worms in me for a shoot I did last year with Marshall Bradford in Vegas. I enjoy all sorts of odd object and strange creatures. It’s an odd but super sexy fetish of mine, which I think is portrayed very well.

You have many projects that show your versatility, and one of them is doing webcam shows, how do you think cam shows allow you to better express your creativity?

There is a lot of freedom in doing webcam. I truly love that I can be myself and have fun with fans and customers who enjoy me being myself. It’s also nice to learn new things that I try out on cam that gives me a broad spectrum of more sexy adventures with pleasure.

What is something you’d like to try on your cam shows but haven’t had a chance to?

APN: What was the inspiration for you and photographer H. Morgen in creating this image?

Denver Max: Creating the image with H was kind of on a whim. We had previously talked about doing some photos in her bathtub with LED lighting (lights didn’t end up working) and it turned into tentacle magic. I had gotten my Bad Dragon Toy probably about a week before my shoot and I just had sent a photo of the tentacle her way to show it off! Next thing I know she messages me “yes, let’s use that in the shoot!”.

One of the reason I love working with her is because we collaborate well and are usually bouncing ideas back and forth on what we think will work. We didn’t have too much of a plan besides a sexy mermaid caught in nets gets it by the dreaded kraken!

APN: What was the photo shoot like?

H. Morgen: Shooting in the tub with the fishing net and the dildo was kinda challenging!

Her husband had to hold the net up, also he had to hold the light base with his foot just to make sure it didn’t accidentally fall over, I get nervous with my lights around water. She had to hold poses, the net turned our cool pink water dark and that tentacle jizz was … So sticky and got all over us! It’s never a dull moment on an H Morgen shoot!

APN: What do you enjoy about Bad Dragon toys and why/how do you incorporate them in your performances and modeling?

Denver Max: Bad Dragon Toys really interested me because the simple fact of them being different! Most dildos are boring and have similar shapes to them. Mr. Coulter! AltPorn is delighted to talk to you many of our readers find much joy in your work and admire your crazy babes. Tell us – what are some of the characteristics of a model, let them be physical or not, that inspire you?

The models I like working with the most are always very cool underground type babes. I’ll meet them and in a second or two know we will take great pictures together. Music is like that too. When you hear something new it only takes a few seconds to know if it’s good or not. I like my shoots to have a rock and roll crazy feel to them. And when I don’t have to coax the model to go for that look, like when that’s their everyday thing it all just flows. Also, it doesn’t hurt if they are seriously hot. I take better pictures when I’m shooting one model at a time. I don’t like shooting 2 girls or a guy and a girl. I’ve done lots of those shoots, but to me I feel like I’m documenting them, whereas with one model it’s a collaboration with the model and me. My good shoots are basically the model and me just hanging out having fun.

Can you describe a shoot that was completely bananas? What’s the most insane thing that happened on set?

I’ve been asked that before, but to me none of it seems all that weird. Maybe funny, but bananas. Would an actual banana through a donut into a model’s pussy count? The shoots where I don’t click with the model tend to be a bit weirder. Not with what’s going on, just with awkwardness. I was shooting with a model once and getting terrible pictures. I kept trying to talk to her and compliment her so she’d be more relaxed and into it. She had a HUGE Chinese character tattooed on her stomach. It looked bad, but like I said I was in compliment mode. I said that Chinese tattoo looks cool, what does it say or mean? She looked at me like I was an idiot and said, “its Chinese, it doesn’t say anything”.

Have you ever considered taking a leap towards moving image and making a video or short film? And if so can you share some details? Would you consider porn?

I actually wrote, shot and directed a feature-length porn movie called “CrAZyBaBe“. It features Kimberly Kane, Zak Sabathia, Nadia Nitro, Faith Leon, Ashley Blue, April Flores, Mandy Morbid, Marcos Leon, Dirty Harry, Brian Sherwood and Alex Gonz. creativity?

I have no idea. It’s just there. Sometimes more than other times. Sometimes it converts to money easier than other times. I really have no clue

AltP0rn: I’m curious as to how you got started in porn. What were you doing before, and what was the chain of events that led to being where you are now?

Small Hands: I got into porn through my lovely lady Miss Joanna Angel, prior to the adult industry I did (and in some cases still do) many, many things. I was a bartender at craft cocktail / mixology bars as well as nightclubs, I played in many bands over the years, have toured the world, I own and operate my own printing and graphic design company, I could go on and on hahaha. I like to stay busy. At some point I started doing scenes with Joanna for fun, and over time started performing with other girls on our site BurningAngel… After a while, I started to get requests from other companies to perform, and BAM here we are!

AltP0rn: What’s your philosophy towards making porn and sex in general?

Small Hands: I love porn, I love sex, and I love my relationship. It’s the life I always wanted but never knew it could exist…. I have my cake and get to fuck it too

AltP0rn: Where do you see things going in the future?

Small Hands: As for the future, I’ll keep doing it as long as people like watching me (and as long as my dick works hahaha).

How did you get started modeling?

I found an interest in modeling when I was about 16 years old. In my opinion modeling was and still remains a very artistic way of self expression. It became very tiresome and upsetting to create these get ups that I would end up washing down the drain at the end of the day, I felt that I did not use my ideas to their full potential. When I decorate myself there is something more to it than just the clothing and the make up. I discovered photos went hand in hand with my styling ideas; photographs are a great way to capture emotion, to create art with the face and body, this completed my look. As a result my interest in modeling was born and I went from there, contacting photographers who might have been interested in working with visually expressive people and also taking any opportunity to work with photographers who contacted me.

Do you have any fashion or hair tips for how other models might try to do up their style as extravagantly as you do? What sorts of things lead you to learn how to make your hair and makeup dramatic so well?

I’ve always been a very artistic and visual person so I’ve been deeply inspired by influential artists, musicians, actresses and so on. Though I am licensed in Cosmetology I did not by any means learn how to do the make up and hair styles that I do, granted that I did learn a lot of helpful tips and tricks do not be fooled, you still must have an imagination. My best advice is practice, with practice you gain experience. A lot of the hair and make up I’ve done were just playing around and seeing what resulted from it. It is no question that my styling has improved over the years; this is all due to experience and keeping your mind open to all styles. Don’t be afraid to try new things and let your influences and imagination do the rest.

Who are some of your favorite photographers?

My favorite photographers I have worked with are Joe Traina, MojoKiss, my very own twin sister Eden Prosper and of course my husband, Bodo Janos Attila. Favorite photographers I’d love to work with are PUNKassPHOTOS, Viona, Amelia G and Forest Black, MrsKorback, Dan Santoso, Casey Curry, RedRum Collaboration and many more.

Who are some of your favorite fellow models?

I’m not even sure they count as models because they are much more than that but I really enjoy Defenz Mechanizm, Parish Dignam, Eden Muse, Shannon Chromegirl, Roxy Contin, Zephyr Elf and Sean Wild Child (and many more) because they are all extremely creative people who for the most part do their own styling and create their own outfits. They have created a persona, their own image, and they stand out as individuals. They bring so much vibrancy and art to the alternative scene. I worked as a bartender for around 5 years. I worked at a local biker and Coyote Ugly (yes, I had to get on the bar and dance) in Austin, Texas. How did you get started modeling?

The first site i was ever on was in 2004 and it was called K.O kitties.com it was a wrestling/scratch fight site. We came up with the name Azrael and it basically stuck…forever. aha. I then answered a craigslist add…yes craigslist! I don’t advise anyone to do that, as it is very dangerous. Well i got lucky and met up with two guys from hoboken and we started azraelarden.com. Well every year as I get older I am changing my style. Each year I am being inspired by diff types of people or diff trends in fashion. I try to stay in style and follow the rules of fashion while being my own person at the same time. I actually am a fashion designer shh! ..anyone who wants blue hair.. You have to strip your hair to a light yellow or white. You must do this or it will look muddy! Use a bleach packet w/ a 40 or 50 developer. Then use a dye called special effects..they come in all kinds of awesome colors and they stay! I used fishbowl for my turquoise hair.

Who are some of your favorite photographers?

The ignorance kinda blew me away though.. I try to just turn the other cheek, but I am not a huge fan of ignorance or arrogance so my temper took the better of me a couple of times before I learned to just don’t give a fuck a let them lead their own miserable existence without my opinion But other then that, it was kinda what I expected it would be! What exactly is ‘Janteloven’?

Janteloven is a set of rules from and old Danish book in the 30’es that the Scandinavian people kinda adopted.. It lives well here in Denmark and basically it is these 10 commandments to live by. To sum them all up, it would be something like “Don’t think you’re anyone special or that you’re better than us” – I found a link that describes it very well.

Launching a new site, especially with all those features, is always more work than you probably think it will be. I can’t help but notice that the navigation is still a little quirky. What has been the most challenging part of putting the site together?

Probably finding a guy to work with on it, the 1st couple of guys bailed on me and with very little finance, it wasn’t easy! I did a lot of work on the site as it looks now but not all – I am not very good with codes and shit, so my bf did that and I am very happy that he came through for me… I know that the backend of Payback Baby! isn’t the best, but considering what we had to work with in the end, I am pretty damn proud of the site! I never cared about those things as a model, I cared more about getting my fair share of respect from the owners, getting replies on my emails rather fast instead of having to wait for months, that the site didnt look like complete and utter crap, the quality of the photo sets, that the site updates went up on time and so on.. So Im hoping that people care about these things too and in time, the sites backend will improve so be patient, guys Like you noticed it isn’t completely perfect yet but we
are still working on it and still learning..

It completely depends on the community! If it is the getting the good old cock pic once in awhile that bothers you, Facebook or Myspace is way worse than these alt. erotica sites! In our case, it was actually photographers, film makers and so on. Before launching the beta site, a lot a those guys wrote my personally and gave me a really hard time; I would never get anywhere, no one would ever want to work with me and so on. Some even came after me personally, apparently I am butch, ugly, come off German (I don’t even wanna know what he meant by that) and so on?! After launching the public site, these guys had the nerve to come back and join the site, try to sell shoots to members and some of the models and so on.. That is why we made the changes in our Terms Of Use! No fucking way in hell, call me uptight and what not but I will not play that way and let those assholes prey on my ladies and members!

Other than that, its pretty basic; be nice to the girls, play nice and show some respect! Up until now, we have only had trouble with 1 model and 1 member that resulted in them leaving the site less then voluntarily and that is just fine with me! APN: Blue Blood magazine in print was really ground zero for jump-starting the whole altporn genre and you’ve managed to maintain a top ranking for Blue Blood for more than sixteen years. To what do you credit your remarkable success and longevity?

AG: Thanks. I always hope the universe will smile on me for hard work and doing the right thing, and sometimes it does. A big advantage Blue Blood had in coming to the web is that the magazine was always subscription-driven and we had free sites for the community for years before we launched our first membership site. We actually had paid members before we had even actually launched the first pay site because we tested out a banner rotation for a few minutes and people saw it. I really appreciate the support we’ve gotten over the years and try to really put a lot back into the scene and into having really great creative work on all my sites.

APN: Okay, so, in your bio on your new personal site, your thesis subject really jumped out at me. You wrote your thesis at Wesleyan University on vampire legends as a paradigm for aggressive human sexuality?

AG: I sure did. Kind of funny that it seemed sort of shocking, and outrageous, and possibly frivolous to be writing about that sort of topic, at a school like that, but it actually did turn out to be relevant to my job. The name Blue Blood is sort of a play on words with the blood for vampires and gothic spookyness and the blue meaning erotic as in blue movies, but the blue blood phrase overall connoting a certain tastefulness and strength. Especially in 1992, when I founded Blue Blood, it was very common for alt-identified people to feel like they had to accept second class citizen status. So the strength aspect is really important to the core manifesto for me. The most important message I would like readers or members to get from Blue Blood is that purple hair or tattoos or having kinky sex or otherwise living flamboyantly does not mean you are not entitled to the rewards of the larger society.

APN: Didn’t the magazine have some bloodplay in it as well?

AG: The very first issue of Blue Blood, my friend Fish wrote a how-to article for safe bloodplay. Fish is a tattoo artist now and he was a military medic then, so he’s educated on the subject, but we got so many angry letters about that article. Blue Blood magazine even showed condoms in shoots and the article was about how to do bloodplay safely, so I’m very safety conscious, but some people just do not understand that it is not the extremity of a sexual practice which makes it unsafe. Unfortunately, in the internet distribution channel, we’ve been forced to move away from anything with blood in it.

APN: How does publishing on the internet instead of in print change whether you can have bloodplay?

AG: A lot of people get all caught up with definitions of genre based on what is and is not shown, but what can be shown in media is very dependent on distribution channel. For example, it did not used to be possible to show penetration in a magazine and be distributed on any newsstands outside of adult bookstores. Online, penetration makes no difference in where something can be seen. By contrast, if a web site accepts credit cards for memberships, they are likely to run into difficulties having any blood content. We’ve had to remove photo sets which showed only topless nudity where the girl was playing with blood made of vanilla-flavored corn syrup and food coloring because it was deemed extreme violence. If you watch Skinemax or cable channels like that, you can’t see penetration, but every other flick is a horror-themed excuse to douse topless women with fake blood. So it is not really that some distribution channels allow more and some allow less; they are just different.

APN: So is publishing on the internet harder or easier than in print?

AG: I love magazines. I still contribute to print projects and still create print projects. I love getting to hold a finished magazine in my hand. But the wonderful thing about the internet is that it is possible to go directly to the people who get it, without having to go through some distributor who hasn’t cracked an adult magazine in twenty years and thinks having tattoos is something that only teenagers would do. Despite a few restrictions on things like bloodplay, I find the internet easier from a distro standpoint. I think it is harder from a community standpoint. Back in the all print days, there used to be a lot of events where publishers would get together and we all traded quarter page ads with each and that is less the case for web publishers in this demographic.

APN: How do you feel about how altporn has evolved?

AG: Well, for one thing, I prefer the expression counterculture erotica to altporn, but I think altporn has definitely become the term for subculture-infused erotic media. In some respects, things are much easier today because being offbeat and being naked on camera have both been really destigmatized most places. In some respects, things being easier means
that there are a small percentage of people who decide they want to make altporn who don’t really have the sense of community or individuality which would once have definitely been there. Most people in it are cool, but it has become more difficult to recognize who I have things in common with now, because, for example, there are people who just dress a certain way to be accepted and they don’t really care about personal freedom or get what it is all about.

APN: Your personal pics section on AmeliaG.com is really funny and I spotted so many famous people with you in there. Is your life basically a twenty-four hour party where you go from Hummer limo to book reading to art show to nightclub to fab afterparty?

AG: When I actually do take a moment to go out on the town, I like to make it count. I’m really a workaholic, but I think a gallery of like fifteen shots of me holding a camera and seventy of me sitting at a computer would have been less entertaining than eighty-five of me having fun.

APN: My favorite part of your new AmeliaG.com site is the professional photography portfolio you have on there. I love that you have members of the Misfits, Genitorturers, and Marilyn Manson in there with altstars like Voltaire, Bella Vendetta, and my future wife April Flores and it somehow seems all of a piece. How do you choose who you are going to shoot?

AG: As an artist, it is really important to me that my work be seen, so I like to have an idea of where a shoot might be published. A few hundred people a week apply to appear on the various Blue Blood sites, including BlueBlood.com, BarelyEvil.com, GothicSluts.com, and RubberDollies.com in particular, and there is a submission form on BlueBloodPhoto.com. I, of course, publish other people’s photography even more often than my own on BlueBlood.com etc. and there are only so many hours in the day, but I do photograph select people from the Blue Blood apps. I do take commissions from publications, record labels, and such. In general, I most enjoy photographing people who have a certain spark, star quality, individuality, personal style, and passion for self-expression. Hotness is good, but there needs to be hotness with unique self-expression. After all, I think avoiding just conforming to someone else’s aesthetic is important to being alt.
