We wanted to share a couple fun videos from our friends over at XCritic from the AVN 2009 show, featuring Stoya and Belladonna. I really like the Belladonna one. She’s so in charge of the mob. I think the poor guy interviewing Stoya was just a little too tongue tied, but who can blame him. We wish all our talented friends, stars, directors, and producers, the best of luck with this years awards.

I have to agree with Joanna on this one! Wow, Taysha! is quite a find! If she was at the Adult Video convention, I want to know what she was doing there and where I can get my hands on some. But, till I can track that down, this sexy kitchen series BurningAngel recently posted will tide me over. You have to see the ink work on her back too!

I downloaded this BurningAngel video last night and wow… it’s really hot! It starts off a little silly, with Tommy in a feather boa and those horrible giant sunglasses everyone seems to be into, reading Jane magazine of all things, although to be honest, I didn’t even have the sound on at that point. Eventually, cutie Pinky Lee shows up and they get right to business. The chemistry between these two and the fun they are having together is what really makes this a great video and the sex is really hot too. It looks like the kind of sex you’d want to have with someone you liked, and it’s dirty dirty as well. They look really cute together, although I could do with a little less spitting. Saliva is cool and all, but spitting can be a little gross sometimes. Pinky is quite talented, she immediately takes all of Tommy’s award winning cock down her throat and for a ‘first time anal’ scene, he sure pops it right in there hard and fast, and the whole time she’s making adorable faces and noises and really communicates the fun she’s having.

In Joanna Angel’s justification for doing her own separate solo site with all her pro work on it, she claims BurningAngel is strictly for amateurs, and I’m not totally certain AVN award winning performers exactly qualify as amateurs, but I’m not sure it really matters. The scene is hot and enjoyable, even if they are not the very most alternative looking coupling by today’s standards. I do have to mention that I tried the high bandwidth version of the video and it only downloaded 90% before bouncing me out of the site for some sort of bandwidth threshold violation and I never could get back in to see the climax, so not sure about what’s going on there. I mean, I kinda doubt my password got haxx0red, but even still, I liked the video, so that’s saying something.

Congratulations to our AltPorn video compatriots, looks like you guys did a little better this year. Jack the Zipper won Best Director (Non-Feature) for Blacklight Beauty, which also by some rare twist actually tied with VCA’s Neu Wave Hookers for Best All Sex Release. Joanna’s Angels 2: Alt Throttle managed to win Best Sex Comedy. I hope they knew it was a comedy when they were making it. Special shout out goes to our friend Buck Angel for taking home the Transsexual Performer of the Year, although I think they might need to split that out into FTM and MTF at some point. Oh yes, and my personal favorite category, Most Outrageous Sex Scene, went to Girlvert 11 for it’s “Meat Is Murder” scene featuring Ashley Blue, Amber Wild & Steve French. Joanna looks nice in purple. I kind of like her spooky clubby look more than the more Emo influenced styles she’s sometimes rocking. We’ll keep an eye out for the new release.

Forbes.com recently posted an article by Dan Ackerman that takes to task some of the revenue estimates offered by the adult industry:

The idea that pornography is a $10 billion business is often credited to a study by Forrester Research. This figure gets repeated over and over. The only problem is that there is no such study. In 1998, Forrester did publish a report on the online “adult content” industry, which it pegged at $750 million to $1 billion in annual revenue. The $10 billion aggregate figure was unsourced and mentioned in passing.

The article gives off a vibe of agenda (”The fact is pornography, or ‘adult entertainment,’ is as marginal now as it ever was.”), but part of that may be the simple fact that much of the PR that paints porn as “mainstream” uses economic statistics as its foundation. If people are spending similar amounts of money on porn as they do on other, less controversial media, then porn isn’t just the shameful vice of men who can’t control their urges and women who are morally lost to society. Organizations like AVN obviously find it in their best interest to present their product as something everyone can feel okay enjoying, and you have to wonder about their figures when they can’t explain how they arrive at them:

How Adult Video News gets this number is not clear. We asked Adult Video News‘ managing editor, Mike Ramone. “I don’t know the exact methodology,” he said, “It’s a pie chart.” Asked to break the figure down into sales versus rentals, a standard practice among those who cover the video industry, he said he didn’t think it was available and suggested we call the editor-in-chief, who didn’t return our calls.

Regardless of the economics of it all, though, I think it’s hard to argue that our society is much more sexually open than it was 30 years ago, and that expressions of sexuality — sometimes to the extent of pornography — are more acceptable.
